Though Google was still in beta, and they had only just hired their first employee (Craig Silverstein, who now serves as Google’s director of technology), Google officially opened shop six years ago today.
Initially known as "BackRub," Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while the two were students at Stanford University. Their first office in Menlo Park was a sublet offered by a friend.
