Hi Jill,

I've recently begun work on SEO, and I have a quick question for you:

If we convert some of our pages from XML format to ASPX format will that affect our rankings? In other words, do the crawlers prefer certain formats over others?

Thanks.

Melissa

Jill's Response

Hi Melissa,

The search engines don't care what extension your URLs are formatted in.

BUT...if you change all your URLs from one thing to another, it can (and will) take a couple of months for the engines to remove your old URLs and index your new ones. That's the main problem with that type of redesign.

Hope this helps!

Jill
