The New York Times has an interesting article today about the compromises being made by the folks at Google in regards to the ads that will display in their free Gmail system.

Google claims that no ads relating to sex, guns, drugs or a variety of other topics will be matched with emails containing those phrases. Additionally, no dating sites will be shown in the advertisements that appear next to the content of email messages. The New York Times reports that the test messages they sent through the system contained some interesting ads that may reflect a matching system that is still on the immature side.

For more information on the test emails sent by New York Times and commentary from both sides, view the full article: "The Internet Ad You Are About to See Has Already Read Your E-Mail." (Registration required)
