Weekly Newsletter - 2004-04-14
If you have trouble viewing this newsletter, a copy is available on the Web: http://www.searchengineguide.com/semnews/semarchives.html

Hi Everyone!

In the lower right column of the newsletter I list as many upcoming conferences, seminars, and workshops as I can each week . But, whenever the newsletter gets too large and I need to reduce its size, that is the section that gets chopped down first. To make it easy to find the complete list, I've added a new link that will take you to the conferences page on Search Engine Guide. Now, even when I have to edit things down, you'll still be able to locate any and all upcoming conferences.

Have a great week!

Robert Clough

Discussion Threads of the Week
(Links to search engine forum discussion threads that deal with search engine marketing topics. Each listing provides the topic, the source, and a brief snippet from the discussion.)

Gold in Logs
Source: Cre8asite Forums - "...gather your log files and look at your keyword referral data. You will require a statistics package that will show you all your keyword referrals... Examine the keyword terms that you didn't optimise for. Chances are you'll spot a term that occurs more than once. Write another page covering this term. Optimise as usual. This is an iterative approach to SEO. It's using your own log file as a personalised Wordtracker."

Local Google Killed My Traffic (Free reg. required)
Source: Webmaster World - "Let's cut to the bottom line: if you want to survive, then you are going to have to compete with the locals. To do that, you probably going to have to appear as if you are 'local' in nature."

'the' In a Domain Name
Source: Best Practices Forums - "We have a client that is starting a new website and she was told that 'the' in a domain name will shoot you down in the search engines. I have never heard this theory. Anybody else heard it? Or have experience with this?"

Yahoo News Rocks! Here's Why...
Source: Cre8asite Forums - "I finally got around to checking up on all the way cool stuff Y!'s been doing with RSS of late. I'm still sitting here shaking my head in awe at all of this..."

Adwords Campaign Budgets
Source: High Rankings Forum - "What you need to know is your marketing allowable. Your marketing allowable is the amount you can afford to spend on advertising and marketing activities per sale and still make enough profit for you to be satisfied."
