Visual Relevance: the Affect of Askís Preview Tool on Click Throughs
by Cassie Gillette - When Ask recently unveiled its newly updated site it surprised us with some exciting new features and brought attention to some of its older ones. One of these being a site preview tool in the form of a small set of binoculars that was introduced in June 2004.

Book Review: Chris Andersonís The Long Tail
by Matt Bailey - With great anticipation, I pre-ordered Chris Anderson's The Long Tail two months ago. I received it last week and have read it through fairly quickly. I enjoyed the book as it was much more of a social commentary than a business manual. I like this approach, as the long tail is not a "how-to", but a "because why".

Secrets of Successful Business Relationships Online
by Stoney deGeyter - While online businesses lack the ability to build relationships face-to-face, this does not negate the importance of building relationships with your customers--you just have to go about it a bit differently. In part, this is accomplished through your website itself, sometimes through email communications, and occasionally over the phone.

Analytics Analysis For Search Marketers
by Manoj Jasra - Having analytics in place is just half of the solution, actually using them and tailoring them to provide solid information and reasoning is what separates those on the leading edge from those on the bleeding edge.

Spotlight on Search - Interview with Eric T. Peterson
by Lee Odden - Eric is currently Vice President with the Visual Sciences division of web analytics firm, WebSideStory, is the author of several books on web measurement and moderates several popular discussion lists on analytics. He also manages an excellent site on web analytics called Web Analytics Demystified.

Branded Terms in Search Results: Pre-Mapping in Action
by Gord Hotchkiss - Searchers are incredibly adept at focusing in on just the portion of the results page that interests them. The time required to relocate to the prime real estate is literally a fraction of a second. Yet that real estate isnít always the same spot.

What Google Said When You Werenít Listening
by Kim Roach - Google wants to create quality search engine results just as badly as you want to acquire high search engine rankings. Fortunately for us, Google provides web masters with plenty of guidelines and tips for building a Google-Friendly site. Unfortunately, many web masters simply arenít listening.

The Leeroy Jenkins Parable: How Not To Implement An Internet Marketing Strategy
by Todd Mintz - Starting an Internet marketing campaign, like fighting high-level, cyberspace monsters, is a huge complex undertaking. In order to make the effort a success, many people who perform different functions must be strategically aligned. Your team may not have all the in-house resources to "slay the monsters" however, you need not go into battle unprepared.

SES Latino Session Recaps
Small businesses that deal with the Hispanic or Latino market might be interested to know that Barry Schwartz over at Search Engine Roundtable has put together an excellent summary of sessions from this week's SES Latino conference down in Miami, Florida. From the challenge of translating content to an overview of the Hispanic search populating in the United States, the conference was the first of its kind in focusing on the unique challenges that face businesses targeting a growing demographic.

If You Missed The Free Seminar I Did This Week...
You still have a chance to see and hear the presentation. For those that missed the earlier announcement, I paired up with the folks over at ClickTracks to give a free seminar this week that focused on the ways that you can use visitor behavior to influence your plans for link building, viral marketing and online reputation management. If you missed it, you can now view a recorded version of the seminar (including the PowerPoint slides) here. Even better still, ClickTracks has decided to open up their archives in case you missed any of their other free seminars!

Click Flippers Face Frustrating Funding Fluctuations
(say that five times fast!) Jennifer Slegg reports on the new landing page quality guidelines that are being put in place by Google in order to try and squelch the ever growing "click arbitrage" industry. Basically, Google's not real happy about site owners that buy low-cost traffic only to encourage visitors to click on higher-priced AdSense ads and is working on ways to make the practice more difficult.

Great Article on Search, Usability and Analytics
For years now, my friend Matt has been saying that search engine marketing and usability are so intricately tied that they might as well be part of the same process. Turns out he's not the only one that believes this...as demonstrated by an excellent article by Gerry McGoldrick over at Adotas.

Branded Terms in Search Results: Pre-Mapping in Action
Searchers are incredibly adept at focusing in on just the portion of the results page that interests them. The time required to relocate to the prime real estate is literally a fraction of a second. Yet that real estate isnít always the same spot. It varies depending on query and intent. It also varies by user, but even the same user will navigate the real estate of the listings in very different ways, depending on what theyíre looking for. Google Hiring UK Search Reviewers?
Teddie over at the Search Engine War blog has a potentially interesting find that includes a supposed Google job description from the UK. Via verbal confirmation from the recruiter that's posted the ad, it appears that Google is seeking out UK based at home workers to manually judge issues like relevancy and search result quality.

eBay Takes a Bold Stand Against Google
In what could be taken as a slap in the face, eBay has announced that its sellers will not be allowed to offer the Google Checkout payment option to bidders on the popular auction site. eBay currently allows sellers to utilize almost 40 different payment methods, but CNET News has reported that the auction giant has struck down Google Checkout as being "new and untested."

Did You Miss Andrew Goodman's Free Talk?
Last week, I mentioned the free seminar on pay per click advertising that was offered up by Freshbooks. This week, I hear that the Freshbooks team has put the session up online so that anyone who missed it still has the chance to download and listen to it.

I'm Looking for Images for My Site
"I'm trying to find some little images to use on my web site. Does anyone know of a good source please? I'm trying to find somewhere that has free-to-use pictures where preferably I don't have to give acknowledgement of the picture source. It's not that I mind giving credit where it is due. It's because there physically won't be room to include any acknowledgements. I don't want to breach anyone's copyright."
