There's been a lot of buzz in the search marketing world lately about a concept known as the "long tail." I heard it in nearly every session I sat in at the Search Engine Strategies conference last week, and chances are good that if you've been in a discussion forum or read industry articles recently, you've also heard it. But what is the long tail and why should you care about it?

To make it simple, the long tail is made up of the hundreds, or thousands of keyword phrases that send just a handful of visitors to your Web site. While it would be easy enough to ignore these individual phrases, combined together into the group known as the long tail, they are likely sending more traffic to your site than your top ten or even top twenty keyword phrases.

That means that it's likely a good idea to start paying a bit of attention to those phrases. To learn more about the long tail and what you should be doing with it, check out Matt Bailey's latest article: Keyword Strategies – The Long Tail
