More and more corporate blogs are making their way onto the Internet while lawyers are warning companies of the possible legal hazards that could occur when employees are let loose in the free-wheeling blogosphere. Sun Microsystems, Microsoft and General Motors are just a few examples of some large companies that have officially sanctioned corporate blogs for employees to write about products and strategy.

However, lawyers are already sniffing possible pitfalls in corporate blogging such as divulging financial information if you are a public company or revealing trade secrets. Martha Graybow goes on to say, "There already have been cases of people being fired for writing about life inside their companies on blogs not affiliated with their employers. Experts say the real test will come when courts must consider the legal ramifications of what employees say on corporate blogs."

I also read that according to Intelliseek, a technology company that tracks developments in the medium, 40,000 - 50,000 new blogs are created each and every day. Wow! So much for my idea of starting a personal blog.

With the incredible growth of the blogging phenomena, it will be very interesting to see what kinds of legal ramifications will come about. Will "freedom of speech" come at a costly price for some? We will have to wait and see.
