American Online announced yesterday that they would be aquiring Truveo, a video search engine. With Yahoo!, Google and Amazon.com all putting an emphasis on video search in the last few months, it's no surprise that AOL is looking to boost their own technology.

"Clearly online video is a mass market phenomenon," said Kevin Conroy, AOL executive vice president of media networks. "It's important for consumers to have the best means to find what they are looking for--and the video searches up to this point are not as good as text search."

AOL plans to mix Truveo in with its existing video search functions.
