In an interesting political move, one blogger has taken his fight against Yahoo! to his web site, sending any visitors that have been referred to his site by Yahoo! straight to a page protesting their actions in China. Originally, several sites have reported that the search result was actually redirecting to the Amnesty International web site and their position on Yahoo!, but right now, the redirect has been removed and the page content has been replaced with a message to readers.
The message says, in part:
It seems that redirecting the Yahoo users will lead only to three things:
a) Visitors seeing themselves on the Amnesty website without knowing why, will close the browser window without reading.
b) Yahoo removing me from their indexes.
c) Nobody joining me, for the fear of point b.
So I'm trying a softer approach, displaying a brief and well visible text, for Yahoo users eyes only.
The official message that he is looking to share with visitors?
On April 27, 2005, Shi Tao (a Chinese journalist) received a ten-year prison term for sending information about a Communist Party decision through his Yahoo email account to a website based in the United States. (Source: Amnesty)
In response to this, I am asking all the surfers that come here thru the Yahoo search engine, to join the Amnesty International campaign to highlight Yahoo responsibility towards human rights in China and wherever it operates.
