One of the most talked about search marketing tools of the past year is the Keyword Discovery Tool from the folks over at Trellian. It's fast becoming one of the most popular keyword research tools for search marketing professionals and their latest round of updates helps to show why.

To start with, they've updated their advanced search feature to combine many of the advanced discovery functions into one interface. The new interface lets researches access all of the following tools at once:

  • Keyword Discovery Search
  • Exclude words in search results
  • Phrase search
  • Search related terms
  • Search like terms
  • Crawl for related words
  • Find common misspellings
  • Retrieve keywords from the meta tags used in a specific URL
  • Run keyword permutations for up to 5 keywords.

It also offers expanded options for keyword permutations. This feature basically allow a researcher to plug in up to five different keywords which Trellian will then process and use to generate a list of all phrases including those keywords. The results will be mixed with their search counts so that researches can quickly find out which variations of a phrase are the most popular with searchers.

A new translation feature also works to translate saved keyword phrases into five different languages. (French, Dutch, German, Italian and Spanish) While this is an interesting addition, it is important to note that doing a straight translation of keyword phrases isn't generally the best idea for running a foreign language campaign.
