A new survey from BIGresearch showed that most consumers use the web to check out products before going to the store to purchase. 87% of respondents said they did so regularly.

Products most affected by consumers making more than $50K per year are electronics, home improvement items, and appliances. No surprise there, as these are typically higher-ticket items that are usually researched well-ahead of time.

However, products purchased by adults making less that $50K per year, that were researched online and then purchased, listed electronics, apparel, and medicines/vitamins/supplements in the top three.

Google was the top search engine by far, with Yahoo, eBay and Amazon. Interestingly, Walmart.com was the fifth most used web resource for researching products.
