Robin Nobles gives us ten common grammar errors that typically haunt web pages. In a day and age where web sites are so often the storefronts for businesses, it is important to not only having correct spelling in place but proper grammar as well. After reading through some of the items on the list I realized that I might be guilty one or two. Yikes! Better comb through my web sites and check the copy.

• Periods and commas: do they go inside or outside of quotation marks, or does it depend on the sentence?

• Spelling spot check
  
  receive (remember: i before e except after c)
  all right (alright is not a word)
  category; dependent
  a lot (should always be two words)

  Their vs. there vs. they’re – Their is the possessive version (their house—not they’re house); they’re stands for they are; and there is a filler word.
  
  You vs. your vs. you’re – Using the search function in your word processing program, search for you and make sure you didn’t mean your.
  
  
• Singular vs. plural (i.e data vs. datum)
  
  
• Commas: To separate words in a list, introductory phrases and words and to separate compound sentences.

I've always struggled with # 3, whether periods and commas should go within quotations or outside. Outside has never looked correct to me. I also recently discovered that I have been using "then" in a lot of places where I should have used "than." And finally my most common spelling error - chnage... I mean change. ;)
