An interesting article was written by Josh Lovinson today at MediaPost. The article comments on the hundreds of articles about youTube, Google, copyright infringement, and ad revenue.
What is lost in the overwhelming glut of news is the force that made YouTube what it are today – the users. The talented and the talent-less. The ones who have uploaded videos of themselves or their friends being stupid, the ones that have created music videos inspired by events or artists, and the ones that upload, well, just about anything (cat videos?).
This week, a video tribute (broadcast without the express written consent of the NFL) was uploaded to YouTube by a very talented singer. The video expresses the heartfelt anger of a Raider fan that has lost faith in a highly paid athlete and franchise who doesn’t seem to care. The name of the song is “Randy,” of course; it is to the tune of Barry Manilo’s “Mandy”.
This video went live on November 7th, and three days later, there are over 20,200 views.
This is the forgotten base of YouTube – the thousands of users that have contributed content that entertains the rest of us.
Just consider:
Numa, Numa
Evolution of Dance
Mentos and Coke
Chad Vader, Day Shift Manager
If you haven’t seen any of these – just search around – why not? it’s Friday . . .
