Search Engine Wars - Innovate To Survive in 2004
Source: Search Engine Guide 2004-01-14 The message is clear: you can't rely on just one search engine for all of your traffic. You must use all your wits to emerge victorious from the search engine wars. Google is important, but it is not everything. 2004; the year of Yahootomi!
Source: netimperative 2004-01-14 It may be a very subtle and seamless kind of transition for the average surfer. But for search marketers - it'll be about as subtle as a smack over the back of the head with a shovel if you're not expecting it.
The Graphical Search Divide
Source: InternetNews.com 2004-01-14 One unknown that's generated considerable buzz of late is graphical sponsored listings. Would marketers do well to add images and richer visual elements to their paid search results? Would doing so increase the branding effectiveness of search marketing?

On the economy of Web links
Source: First Monday 2004-01-14 In the modern Web economy, hyperlinks have already attained monetary value as incoming links to a Web site can increase its visibility on major search engines. Thus links can be viewed as investment instruments that can be the subject of an exchange process. In this study we build a simple model performed by rational agents, whereby links can be bought and sold. Through simulation we achieve consistent economic behaviour of the artificial Web community and provide analysis of its micro– and macro–level parameters. In our simulations we take the link economy to its extreme, where a significant number of links are exchanged, concluding that it will lead to a winner take all situation.

Yahoo Changing..So Is 299 Annual Still worth it?
Jim World
"Personally, I feel this way about being Yahoo!'s Directory: If you're competitors are there, then you should be there. If you think that being listed in Yahoo!'s Directory is some 'magic pill' that will skyrocket you to the top of the rankings on Google (or any other search engine for that matter) then you're mistaken."
