What were you doing the day after Christmas? If you were like many folks, you were online. According to Nielsen//NetRatings online shopping for the day after Christmas rose 35% over 2005. According to them you were likely there to "check out after-Christmas sales, redeem gift cards and spend holiday cash, or to sell or exchange unwanted presents."
The Internet has vastly changed the way we do commerce. While the day after still sports long lines at the return counter, many are bypassing those return lines altogether and putting unwanted gifts up for sell on eBay and other auction sites.
Nielsen also provides some other interesting Yuletide data. December 12th was the biggest online shopping day of the season. eBay was the single biggest shopping destination that day receiving more than double unique visitors than its nearest competitor, Amazon.
